Two-car crash sends one driver to a hospital, Lexington road reopens after shutdown

A two-car crash in Lexington Wednesday morning left two drivers injured and the road shut down, according to the Lexington Police Department and the Lexington Transportation Center.

The crash happened around 1:22 a.m. near the intersection of Liberty Road and Burkewood Drive, which is close to New Circle Road. Lexington police Lt. Jesse Palmer said the two vehicles collided and both drivers were injured.

The roadway was reopened around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the transportation center.

One of the drivers had life-threatening injuries, according to Palmer. The other driver’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

No other information about the collision was available. Palmer said the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the wreck.

Officials closed Liberty Road blocked off between Burkewood Drive and Fortune Drive due to the investigation, according to the transportation center.
