Lexington’s Independence Day Celebration schedule: What you need to know
Forget the Thanksgiving Turkey, Christmas carols and even opening day at Keeneland — Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton says the Fourth of July is the city’s favorite holiday.
“From the patriotic concert and the Bluegrass 10,000, all the way to the parade, the fireworks (and) all the festivities that go on, it’s going to be another great week of events this year,” Gorton said.
Gorton announced this year’s Fourth of July celebration schedule. The Lexington Parks and Recreation Department has packed a week’s-worth of events to celebrate the holiday.
The city of Lexington is preparing for inclement weather ahead of its festivities planned for the Fourth of July with the possibility of delays and cancellations.
Multiple roads will be closed from 4-11 p.m. Wednesday and from 5 a.m. to approximately midnight Thursday.
“There will be something for everyone at these programs, which are carefully crafted and curated with musical talent, local food and drinks, activities, and, of course, dazzling fireworks,” said Adrienne Thakur, deputy director of the department.
“We hope to see you, your family and friends at these events that are sure to add a spark to your week.”
