Man O’ War Boulevard closed after pedestrian struck, killed in crosswalk

A pedestrian in Lexington was killed in a Tuesday morning collision that closed part of a busy roadway, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The crash happened around 8:27 a.m. on Man O’ War Boulevard at Beaver Creek Drive. Lexington police Lt. Dan Truex said an SUV hit a pedestrian while they were in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was declared dead on scene, according to Truex. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Billy Messer, 67.

The coroner’s office said the driver ran a red light and struck Messer in the crosswalk. His manner of death was listed as an accident.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Truex said it’s unknown if any charges will be filed.

The driver involved in the collision was cooperative on scene, according to Truex.

A section of the inner loop of Man O’ War Boulevard was shut down shortly after the wreck occurred while police investigated the scene. Truex said the road reopened at 10:06 a.m.
