Updated: Two people killed in separate crashes, one driver charged in hit-and-run

Two people were killed in separate collisions in Lexington Monday night, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The first collision happened at 5:55 p.m. on Winchester Road, near Ashton Drive. Lexington police Lt. Dillan Taylor said a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and declared dead at the scene.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 43-year-old Angelina Wells, of Lexington. She died from blunt force injuries, and her death was labeled an accident.

The driver remained on scene, and charges are not expected to be filed, Taylor said.

The second collision happened at 11:10 p.m. at Richmond and Squires roads. Taylor said it was a hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a moped.

The driver of the moped died in the crash. The coroner’s office identified the rider as 47-year-old James Stamper, of Paris. The coroner’s office said Stamper was riding a moped when it was struck by a vehicle, and his manner of death was an accident.

Later Tuesday, police said 21-year-old Logan Rogers was charged with leaving the scene of accident/failure to render aid leading to death or serious physical injury. Rogers was identified through police’s real-time intelligence center as the other driver involved in the hit-and-run.

Rogers’ arrest citation said he met with officers after his vehicle was found, where he admitted to being involved in the collision. Rogers also told officers he fled because he was scared.

Rogers is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center without a bond, according to jail records. He will be arraigned in Fayette District Court Wednesday afternoon.

In October, Rogers was charged with running a red light in Harrodsburg, according to court records. He was also charged with failure to wear a seat belt, failure to produce an insurance card and failure to maintain required insurance.

There have been 28 fatal collisions in Lexington this year as of Nov. 7, according to Kentucky State Police data.
