Lexington officials are about to begin a two-year sewer line replacement project along New Circle Road on the north side of Lexington.

Construction to replace the 55-year-old sewer line will start Monday along Colesbury Circle and will proceed along the access road in that area.

Access to businesses will remain open while construction continues.

The project is part of a more than $590 million Environmental Protection Agency consent decree project to upgrade the city’s stormwater and sewer capacity.

The sewer line along New Circle Road will be replaced over two years. The line to be replaced is between Newtown Pike and Bryan Station Road.

Officials plan to keep New Circle Road open during construction, but there may be times that parts of the road are closed, city officials said in a news release. City officials said that residents and businesses in the area would be given notice if lanes were going to be closed.

Later this summer the sewer line will go through nearby Elkhorn Park. Residents will also be notified when construction through the park begins, city officials said.

About 8,000 feet of sanitary sewer will be constructed along the New Circle Road corridor by the end of 2026.
