West Maxwell Street from Oliver Lewis Way to South Broadway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays starting Monday, April 28, city officials announced this week.

The closure is necessary for a major sewer line replacement on West Maxwell. The sewer line is underneath the street.

Construction will start at the South Broadway end and move toward Oliver Lewis Way. The entire section of road will be closed during the day, Lexington city officials said.

The road will reopen at night and on weekends.

Construction is scheduled to last until the fall.

That section of road is often used by people coming to Central Bank Center and Rupp Arena for events. City officials encourage motorists to use Oliver Lewis Way to get to South Broadway.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout construction. However, street parking will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday in active construction areas. Street parking may also be affected by equipment outside of those times.

The street will reopen during major events such as the upcoming May graduation ceremonies for Fayette County High School and University of Kentucky students.
