Multiple cats were rescued from a house that caught fire on St. Anthony Drive on Saturday afternoon.

Lexington Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Galati said he did not know how many cats were inside the house on the 500 block of St. Anthony, off Bryan Station Road, so he was not immediately able to say whether all made it safely out.

He said at least three cats were rescued, one of which was being revived by firefighters as he spoke.

“There’s lots of hiding places,” he said.

Crews were dispatched to the home at 1:20 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames, he said.

Battalion Chief Derek Roberts said two people were displaced by the fire. No one was injured.

A fire investigator was at the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire, which was on the first floor and spread to the attic.

Scot Ward said he was watching television Saturday afternoon when he looked out the window and noticed smoke coming from the home, then saw a flame in the front window.

He said he ran across the street and began banging on the doors of the home while his mother called the fire department.

Galati said no one was at home at the time.
