A section of Man o’ War Boulevard in Lexington was shut down during rush hour Friday afternoon because of a serious collision that sent four people to the hospital.

One driver had life-threatening injuries, said Lt. Nate Williams, of the Lexington Police Department.

Williams said the driver and two passengers in a second vehicle were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The two-vehicle crash at Man o’ War and Rio Dosa Drive was reported at about 4 p.m., Williams said.

While the outer loop of Man o’ War reopened soon after the crash, the inner loop remained closed until about 6:45 p.m., he said.

As of 4:45 p.m., the outer loop of Man o’ War was shut down at Richmond Road, and the inner loop was shut down at Palumbo Drive, according to Lexwrecks, the social media account of the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to the scene to investigate.
