Coroner’s office identifies man killed in Lexington moped crash
A 64-year-old man died in a crash while riding a moped this month in Lexington, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
The wreck happened May 4 at the intersection West High Street and Oliver Lewis Way, according to Kentucky State Police crash data. The coroner’s office said a man, identified Monday as Jaems Newton, from Fayette County, was riding a moped when it collided with a vehicle.
Newton was declared dead about 12 hours after the crash from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner’s office. His death has been labeled as an accident.
The other driver involved in the wreck stayed at the scene, according to the Lexington Police Department. It’s unknown what caused the collision and the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
The wreck is the 16th fatal collision in Lexington this year, according to KSP data. At this point last year, there were seven fatal collisions.
