FL developer buys downtown Lexington post office property. Will it remain open?
A Florida group has purchased Lexington’s only downtown U.S. Post Service office, property records show.
CM Gatton sold 200 E. High St., which includes the Post Rider Post Office, Oct. 31 to Lexington High Street Partnership LP of West Palm Beach, Fla., for $2.77 million, according to Fayette County Property Value Administration records.
Officials with Lexington High Street Partnership LP could not be located for comment.
Susan Wright, a spokeswoman for USPS, which leases the building, said there are no immediate plans to move the post office.
“There are no changes planned for the Post Rider Station due to the sale,” Wright said.
The area on East High Street has seen a lot of recent sales and property turnover as many out-of-state developers look for land near the University of Kentucky to build private student housing.
The YMCA of Central Kentucky announced in October it had sold the popular downtown location to Florida-based developer Tramell Webb Partners Inc. for the purpose of building student apartments.
A sale price for the YMCA property at 235 E. High St. has not been released. Officials with Tramell Webb were not immediately available for comment on whether Lexington High Street Partnership LP is connected to or a subsidiary of Tramell Webb.
