A family of six was displaced from their home Wednesday night after a fire broke out at a Fayette County apartment complex.

No one was injured, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The fire happened around 8:20 p.m. at 219 Patchen Drive. The department said firefighters spotted light smoke when they arrived and quickly extinguished a small fire that had extended into the attic.

The family of six — two adults and four children — were displaced from their home as a result of the damage. The fire department said the apartment complex’s management and Red Cross are assisting the family.

The agency is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

The incident was the first of two overnight structure fires in Lexington. Around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, the fire department received a report of a barn on fire on Seeger Lane.

The fire department said when firefighters arrived to that scene, they found a barn fully engulfed. No injuries to any humans or animals were reported, and no large farm equipment was damaged in the fire.
