When is my trash getting collected in Lexington the weeks of Christmas, New Year’s?
If you’re hosting holiday parties or planning to take down your tree promptly after Christmas Thursday, you may have to wait longer than usual to roll your cart to the curb for Lexington trash collection.
City waste crews won’t collect garbage and recycling Thursday, Dec. 25 or Thursday, Jan. 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holiday. Those who typically are served Thursday will have their carts collected Friday, Dec. 26 and Wednesday, Dec. 31 instead. Collection for business dumpsters will see the same alterations as household waste collection.
“Place trash and recycle carts out the night before your makeup day after 4 p.m. since trucks may arrive early in the morning,” the city said in its announcement.
In addition to altered Thursday collection, the city will also not collect yard waste, paper bags and bulk bundles the week of Christmas. Instead, yard waste be collected again beginning next week, Monday, Dec. 29.
The Haley Pike Waste Management Facility and the two city recycling centers will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, along with New Year’s Day. Additionally, the electronics recycling center will be closed Saturday, Dec. 27.
When can I put my Christmas tree by the curb in Lexington, KY?
If you’re looking to dispose of your Christmas tree early this year, the city will begin collection of natural trees Monday, as well. You can dispose of your tree curbside through the end of January.
“All lights, ornaments, tinsel and other decor should be removed before disposing of natural items,” the city said.
