New pedestrian crossing planned for this tricky Lexington intersection
An intersection on Lexington’s north side will soon get an upgrade to make crossing Loudon Avenue easier and safer for pedestrians.
Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 18, on a new pedestrian crossing at the corner of Loudon and Bryan avenues, an intersection that has long been tricky for pedestrian and motorists to navigate because of the way Bryan intersects Loudon Avenue on a diagonal.
Several years ago, city officials erected yellow plastic barriers on Loudon Avenue to decrease accidents and restrict turning, a move that was not popular with some residents in the area.
The plans include a permanent concrete walking pass on Loudon Ave. where it intersects with Bryan Avenue, so pedestrians will only have to cross one direction of traffic at once. Along with the concrete improvements, there will be new asphalt and striping, Lexington officials said.
Construction will begin March 18 and last approximately three weeks, depending on weather conditions. There will be traffic delays in both directions as crews work on the project over the next several weeks, city officials warned.
