Heads up: This railroad crossing near UK will be closed next week
A key railroad crossing on a busy road near the University of Kentucky campus will be closed to traffic starting Monday, April 20, Lexington city officials said.
Drivers will be allowed to access businesses and homes up to the Norfolk Southern railroad line on Waller Avenue. But drivers will not be permitted to cross the tracks until the railroad line is repaired.
The railroad closure is necessary to make needed repairs at the busy Norfolk Southern crossing. The crossing will be closed until Saturday, April 25.
Drivers can use Virginia Avenue to travel between South Limestone and South Broadway and should follow signage in the area for detours.
Expect heavier traffic on Virginia Avenue during the closure, city officials said.
