There will be no curbside recycling collection on Tuesday, June 23, in Lexington.

Heavy rain on Monday caused mechanical issues at the Lexington Recycling Center, the city said. Several roads in Lexington were closed due to high water and flash flooding after 1.17 inches of rain fell quickly in the area.

All recyclables collected on Tuesday will be taken to the landfill, as there is no space at the recycling center to store recyclables until the mechanical issues are resolved.

The city is asking residents with Tuesday waste collection to put all materials in trash bins and not use blue recycle carts.

Additionally, the recycling center will not be accepting material from private waste collectors or surrounding counties. Those who use private waste collection or are in a surrounding county should check with their waste company for updates.

Next week, there will be no waste collection on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Residents with regular Friday collection will have a makeup day ahead of time on Wednesday, July 1.
