South Limestone celebrates reopening with street party Saturday
To celebrate the reopening of South Limestone, businesses along the corridor are having a street party from 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
The stretch of South Limestone between Avenue of Champions and Vine Street will be closed to traffic starting at 2 p.m., as will minor cross streets. Avenue of Champions and High, Maxwell and Vine streets will remain open.
The street will be designated a festival area, allowing people to carry open containers if they buy their beer there. Businesses will host live music, food and entertainment. The event is free.
Having the street closed 10 months for a major overhaul was not easy, said Isaac Kurs, an owner of Soundbar. But, he added, "We're really happy with the end result."
The street was reopened to traffic last week.
Willie Bodne, general manager of Pazzo's, said he hopes the street party becomes an annual event.
