Apple Store grand opening at Fayette Mall a big hit
Apple fans began lining up Friday evening for Saturday's grand opening of the new store at Fayette Mall. The Apple Store is the second in Lexington but the first that is open to the public.
The University of Kentucky Bookstore includes an Apple campus store, but only members of the campus community can make purchases.
The store is in the Macy's wing of the mall in the former space of Express Men. The stores are known for their full range of Apple products and for customer service workers referred to as "geniuses."
They also offer workshops and one-on-one sessions. In celebration of the grand opening, store employees gave away 1,000 T-shirts to the first 1,000 customers.
Amy Barney with Apple's corporate communications said the store had nearly 1,000 customers in the first two hours it was open, giving out its last T-shirt shortly before noon.
