Urban County Council voted Thursday night to postpone deciding on an ordinance that would set up a six-month pilot program to allow food trucks in designated street parking areas.

On a motion by council member Shevawn Akers, the council voted to table the ordinance until after the Lexington Parking Authority writes a policy statement that clearly sets out how food trucks can operate when they are in metered parking spaces. The policy will address food truck zone boundaries and how long a truck can stay in one metered parking place.

The parking authority expects to have a policy in writing for its June 13 meeting. The council could vote on the pilot program at its June 20 meeting.
