Lexington horse farm's new fence gets a paint job

It can be a dirty job, but in a region where painted farm fences are as iconic as the Thoroughbreds often seen in the fields behind them, somebody has to do it.

On Monday, Tony King and Dave Tice, both with Kentucky Farm Painting Co., were at Bel-Mar Farm, a horse farm on Old Richmond Road, spraying black paint on the new oak fencing.

Doug Herald, who owns the 20-year-old company, said it had painted more than 2,000 miles of fence and more than 1,700 barns in Kentucky and other states. He said it takes a little more than 350 gallons of paint to cover a mile of fencing.
