Food trucks now allowed at Lexington industrial and warehouse businesses

People who work in industrial zones in Lexington may soon have a new lunch option.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council approved a zone change Thursday that allows food trucks to operate on properties zoned for wholesale and warehouse business, light and heavy industrial and economic development uses.

Councilwoman Shevawn Akers' office said the change will allow food trucks in a variety of new settings, such as at Lexmark. "This ordinance was a no-brainer. Industrial and warehouse businesses are often located in areas without restaurants, and employees have very little time for lunch. Allowing food trucks to serve these workers at all hours of the day or night is a win-win for everyone," Akers said in a news release.

In June, the council approved a six-month pilot program that allows food trucks to set up in public street parking spaces within certain guidelines.
