Evening with the STARS Gala raises record amount to benefit local health care initiatives

The 27th annual Evening with the STARS Gala raised a record amount – more than $100,000 – for the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health. Proceeds from the event are used to further the success of health care initiatives at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine health care initiatives, all part of KentuckyOne Health.

Three awards were given at the gala, which was held Nov. 7 at the Lexington Convention Center. This year’s award recipients included:

▪ Charles Kennedy received The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph Hospital.

▪ Mahmoud Moammar received The President’s Award for Physician of the Year at Saint Joseph East.

▪ Larry Cowgill and Doug Hacker, Congleton-Hacker Co., were lauded as Community Volunteers of the Year.

Over the years, the Evening with the STARS gala has raised more than $1.3 million for mission and outreach services at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine R.J. Corman Ambulatory Care Center.

Money raised has funded the Patient Family Assistance Fund, nursing scholarships, $1 million for the expansion of KentuckyOne Health Breast Care at Saint Joseph East, transportation needs for cancer patients and services for the underserved, including screening mammograms for women who are uninsured or underinsured.
