Town Branch Market on East Main Street will close this weekend, but its owner said Wednesday that the market might reopen soon under new ownership.

Howard Stovall, who owns Town Branch Market, said the downtown Lexington grocery and deli will close Saturday, but he hopes to reopen soon once a new owner can be found. Town Branch Market opened in May 2011.

Stovall said Wednesday he thought he had found a buyer, but that deal fell through Tuesday.

Stovall said he hopes to find someone to take over the business soon.

“We are going on hiatus,” Stovall said. “The equipment is still there and we still have inventory and hope to nail down a new deal pretty quickly.”

Stovall said he would like to get a new owner who is more active in day-to-day operations. Stovall said he knows how important the market is to many people who live and work downtown, particularly elderly residents who live in the nearby Christ Church apartments.

“It is not only a place to go for people to get the groceries that they need because many of them can’t drive, but it has also become a social hub,” Stovall said. “I am really hopeful that this will be temporary.”

In late October, Natasha’s Bistro and Bar, Town Branch’s neighbor, announced that it was closing temporarily. It has not reopened.
