Garbage make-up day
Residents and businesses that normally are serviced on Friday will receive curbside pickup on Wednesday because of the New Year’s holiday. Thursday collection will follow the normal schedule.

Last call for Southern Lights
Southern Lights, the four-mile holiday light display at the Kentucky Horse Park, closes for another season. Hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. $15 for a carload. (Kyhorsepark.com)

Start 2016 on a healthy note with a New Year’s Day hike at McConnell Springs or Raven Run. The hikes are family friendly adventures designed for all ages. The McConnell Springs hike starts at 11 a.m.. while the one at Raven Run begins at 1 p.m. Free. (Mcconnellsprings.org, Ravenrun.org)

Cats go after Rebels
SEC play begins for the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team when Mississippi visits Rupp Arena. All time, the Rebels have a 2-52 record versus the Cats in Lexington. (7 p.m., SEC Network)
