Urban County Council goes back to work

The first work session of the new year for the legislative branch of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government begins at 3 p.m. in council chambers at the Government Center, 200 East Main Street. The public may attend. Follow @HLCityhall on Twitter for updates.



Spring semester gets underway at UK

Students are back for the first day of classes of the spring semester.

Hollywood wakes up at 5:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. EST) to learn who’s been nominated for Oscars. Look for live coverage on E! and the major morning shows, and check Kentucky.com for updates.


Tracy Morgan visits Lexington

The former SNL cast member and star of 30 Rock is back on tour after recovering from a 2014 car crash. This week he visits Comedy Off Broadway at The Mall at Lexington Green for what looks like a sold-out run. Show times are 7:15 p.m. Thursday, and 7:15 and 9:45 p.m. Friday through Sunday. At last check, there were only a limited number of tickets, $38, available for Saturday’s 7:15 p.m. performance. (Comedyoffbroadway.com)



It’s the first Gallery Hop of the year

The Globetrotters invade Rupp Arena

The Harlem Globetrotters visit Lexington as the world-famous basketball team celebrates its 90th anniversary tour. It’s a pretty safe bet they’ll be on the winning side when their 7 p.m. tip-off comes around. ($24.50-$114.50; Rupparena.com)


Horse racing’s version of the Oscars
