A winter storm is on the way for Valentine’s Day.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of the state, saying light snow will begin Sunday morning and become heavier in the afternoon and evening, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches by late Sunday. In Eastern Kentucky, there is potential for 3 to 5 inches.

The advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday.

The weather service said snow will change to rain Monday, with a high of 39.

WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey said another storm Monday and Tuesday could bring a wintry mix or more snow.

The high Tuesday will be in the mid-40s.
