Flood warnings issued for parts of Central, Eastern Kentucky
The Kentucky River was expected to flood in three locations by Wednesday morning, according to warnings from The National Weather Service in Jackson.
In Ravenna, the river is expected to rise more than 3 feet over the flood stage, from 19.6 feet to 24.5 feet early Wednesday, according to a warning issued Tuesday.
The South Fork Kentucky River was expected to rise to 29 feet, 3 feet over the flood stage in Booneville Tuesday night, according to warnings. At Heidelberg, the water was expected to rise to 20.3 feet from 19.6 feet, bringing that part of the river 3 inches over the flood stage by midnight Tuesday.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo with the Laurel County Sheriff's Office reported that flooding was already occurring on some roadways in Laurel County by midmorning Tuesday.
WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey predicted that southern parts of the state could see a little snow. Bailey said temperatures could reach the 60s by the end of the week.
Rain, fog and snow slowed down commuters in much of the Bluegrass Tuesday morning.
Because of the fog, visibility at 6:20 a.m. was reduced to one-eighth of a mile in Lexington, the worst in the area, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
The overnight snow closed schools and left slushy streets for much of the morning. Police reported responding to 11 non-injury collisions, six motorist assists and three traffic hazards between midnight and 8 a.m.
