Embarking on the road to the Sweet Sixteen

High school basketball district tournament play tips off across Kentucky. Locally, the Paul Dunbar boys and the Franklin Co. girls are the teams to beat. Keep up with the action on Twitter @HLpreps.

 

Thursday

Final home game for one UK women’s hoops senior

UK women’s basketball honors Janee Thompson, its lone senior, before the final home game of the season, 7 p.m. against Missouri at Memorial Coliseum. The Cats’ other senior, Ivana Jakubcova, will seek a medical redshirt and be back next season.

‘1964: The Tribute’

DanceBlue marathon hits the floor

Hundreds of University of Kentucky students will be dancing a day away for a good cause. UK’s 10th annual DanceBlue marathon features 24 hours of nonstop dancing to raise money for cancer research at UK’s Markey Cancer Center. Last year, dancers helped raise a record $1.6 million. 2 p.m. Memorial Coliseum. (Danceblue.org)

 

Monster trucks roar inside Rupp Arena

They’re loud and big and crash over obstacles. What’s not to like about Monster Jam trucks at Rupp Arena? The action starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16.50-$81.50. (859-233-3535; RuppArena.com)

 

Sunday

Hollywood’s biggest night

Who do you have for best picture? The Martian, The Revenant or one of the other six movies? The red-carpet pre-show begins at 7 p.m. The awards ceremony starts at 8:30 on ABC-36.
