Former Lexixngton Urban County Council member Roy Durbin died Wednesday at Mayfair Manor Nursing Home. He was 83.

Durbin served the maximum six consecutive terms as 9th District councilman before leaving office in 1997. He was known for his colorful and comic comments on council discourse, including an observation of his fellow council members as “the weakest, most disorganized group of turkeys I’ve ever served with.”

Durbin was often referred to by a nickname, “Razor Roy,” because he was a barber for more than 50 years. He owned Suburban Barbershop and Clays Mill Barbershop.

Durbin was also a baseball coach and president of Clays Mill Baseball League for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Dickerson Durbin, two sons and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road, with visitation 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
