Strike Out A-T Fundraiser is March 12 at Southland Lanes
The Strike Out A-T fundraiser will be from 1 to 3 p.m. March 12 at Collins-Southland Lanes Bowling Center, 205 Southland Drive.
Thomas and Sheila Richardson are coordinating the fundraiser to bring awareness to the A-T Children’s Project. A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia) is a genetic, degenerative, neurological disease that causes unsteady walking and slurred speech, and attacks the immune system. There is no cure for the disease, which affects both of the Richardson’s grandchildren, Mason, 10, and Sadie, 7.
“It is hoped that finding better treatment therapies and, hopefully, a cure will soon become a reality,” Thomas Richardson said via email. “But research dollars are in critical need, and families of A-T children are working hard to fund the research dollars that are necessary, especially considering that ataxia-telangiectasia is considered an orphan disease, with little or no funding made available by the pharmaceutical companies.”
The cost is $15 per person and includes two hours of bowling and shoe rental. There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffles and a bowling package (compliments of Collins Bowling Centers) given away to one winner.
