Girls’ Sweet Sixteen in Northern Kentucky

Sixteen teams, all in one place, battling over five days for a state championship. Franklin County represents the 11th Region during the first day of action at BB&T Arena at Northern Kentucky University, playing Shelby Valley at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

UK men in SEC tourney

Kentucky heads to Nashville to take on the Mississippi-Alabama winner in the SEC quarterfinals. Tipoff is 7 p.m. (SEC Network).

 

Geek it up Lexington!

The Lexington Comic and Toy Convention runs through Sunday at Lexington Center, 430 West Vine Street. The guest lineup this year includes “The Fonz” Henry Winkler, actress Karan Gillan of Dr. Who fame, Star Trek star Brent Spiner, wrestling legend Mick Foely and many other celebrities, exhibitors and attractions. Friday is open to VIP ticket holders only. Online prices through Wednesday: $28 Saturday, $18.50 Sunday, $37.50 both days. At the gate: $35 Saturday, $20 Sunday, $45 both days. 3K shuffle kicks off St. Paddy’s Day celebration

Lexington goes green with the city’s St. Patrick’s Irish Festival. The Shamrock Shuffle 3K starts at 8 a.m. and Vine streets. Proceeds benefit Lexington Habitat for Humanity. Registration is $25 in advance, $30 day of race. Call 859-252-2224 or go to Shamrockshuffle3k.com. Enjoy live music, food, children’s activities and more at the Irish Festival at Cheapside Park, 251 West Main Street. The fun starts at 11 a.m. with the blessing of the keg and goes on until 7 p.m. Don’t miss the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 1 p.m., starting at Main Street and Midland Avenue, traveling down Main Street to Upper Street. 30-hour opening celebration at Louisville’s Speed Museum

Say hi to Big ‘L’

The Lexington Legends’ annual Fan Fest marks the day that individual game tickets for all 70 Legends home games and the 2016 South Atlantic League All-Star game — hosted by the Legends — go on sale for the first time.
