Bluegrass Opera to hold free Easter performances
The Bluegrass Opera’s fifth annual Easter celebration, featuring the return of the oratorio King of Glory, will be held at the following times and dates:
▪ 7 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Baptist Church, 163 North Ashland Avenue.
▪ 3 p.m. April 3 at St. Paul’s Parish, Florence.
▪ 7:30 p.m. April 8 at the Newman Center on the University of Kentucky campus.
The performances will be free. The work, with text entirely from scripture, tells the story of the crucifixion and resurrection through a musical journey.
“It’s sort of like Handel’s Messiah, except it’s meant for today’s listeners instead of 18th-century ears,” said Lorne Dechtenberg, artistic director of The Bluegrass Opera and composer of King of Glory.
