Gov. Matt Bevin and Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones traded barbs Thursday night on Twitter over Bevin’s order to cut university funding.

After news reports that Bevin ordered an immediate 4.5 percent cut to state funding of Kentucky’s public colleges and universities on Thursday, Jones tweeted: “And in other news Governor Matt Bevin just significantly cut higher education funding in KY which will mean tuition increases. Depressing”

Jones also posted: “If Matt Bevin really cared about higher education, he would push for change of the corrupt President at UL ... instead he cuts funding”.

The governor responded with a link to a column on Courier-Journal.com that highlights what writer Bob Heleringer called “extravagant and unnecessary contracts” by Kentucky universities.

Jones responded, “Check ‘sitting Governor calls me a kid on Twitter’ off of my life goals. Now if I can just visit space...”
