Two men injured in crash on New Circle near Old Frankfort Pike
A man sustained life-threatening injuries after a traffic accident Monday evening on New Circle Road.
Lexington police Lt. Andrew Daugherty said the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control on the inner loop near Old Frankfort Pike and the vehicle went sideways, then hit an excavator that was parked in the median.
The excavator’s track was embedded 2 feet into the passenger side of the car, and the passenger had to be extricated, Daugherty said. He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“The worst place he could have hit it, he hit it,” Daugherty said.
The driver also was taken to UK, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, Daugherty said.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m., and the ramp to the inner loop of New Circle was shut down for several hours at Versailles Road while police investigated.
Daugherty said police did not know what caused the driver to lose control of the car.
