Nicholasville man is killed when truck crashes into 2 motorcycles

A 61-year-old Nicholasville man has been identified as the motorcyclist who was killed when a pickup truck veered into a group of riders on Old Richmond Road.

Joseph Girouard died of multiple injuries at the scene Tuesday night on Old Richmond Road, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.

Five motorcycles were traveling north together when a southbound pickup truck went into the northbound lane and collided with two motorcycles between Grimes Mill and Cleveland roads at 7:30 p.m., Lexington police Lt. Jackie Newman said.

Coroner Gary Ginn said the motorcyclist who died was thought to have been wearing a helmet. He was thrown off the motorcycle, and then the motorcycle burst into flames, he said.

Newman said the pickup truck driver and the second motorcyclist, both men, suffered minor injuries. They were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Newman said police were investigating to determine what might have caused the crash.
