Head-on crash kills man, temporarily closes Mason Headley Road

One person died after a head-on collision Wednesday morning between a white GMC truck and a sport-utility vehicle on Mason Headley Road.

John Kenton Fairchild, 67, died at 8:32 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.

Fairchild was driving the SUV, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said. The truck crossed the center line and collided with Fairchild’s vehicle.. Police were working to determine why the truck veered.

The truck’s driver had injuries that weren’t life threatening, police said.

The crash occurred about 8 a.m. in the 900 block of Mason Headley Road.

Mason Headley, from Beacon Hill to Versailles Road, was closed for a few hours for accident investigation, Lt. Jonathan Bastian said.
