Hundreds lose power after crane hits electric lines
Hundreds of people in Fayette County were without electricity for several hours early Saturday because of an accident involving a construction crane.
Jessica Bowman, spokeswoman for the Lexington Fire Department, said a worker operating a crane hit power lines around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Todds Road and Forest Hill Drive, which is in the Andover Hills area.
Power lines fell on the crane, trapping the operator, Bowman said.
Power had to be shut down so firefighters could get the operator out of the crane and so repairs could be made.
There were no injuries in the incident, Bowman said.
Kentucky Utilities said on its website early Saturday that power was out to more than 700 customers. The utility later reported that the power had been restored.
