Bike Lexington activities abound in May

Bike Lexington, presented by Pedal Power, will sponsor activities this month and offer commuter incentives to raise awareness of bike safety.

A Family Fun Ride will feature an 8-mile route that begins at 10 a.m. May 21 and caters to all cycling levels and skills on two wheels. Starting at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza in downtown Lexington, the route will provide a shortcut for children on tricycles and training wheels that directs back to the starting point, where children can ride safely in the Car-Free Kid Zone. Registration, which is free, is required and starts at 8 a.m. The Family Fun Ride will feature a police-escorted rolling road closure.

New this year is the Slow Cycle, a free competition for ages 18 and older. The goal is to be the last person to cross the finish line without allowing his or her feet to touch the ground. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the West Sixth Brewing tent; the Slow Cycle begins at 9 a.m. on East Short Street. For a list of rules, visit Bikelexington.com/family-fun-ride.
