Kentucky Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer and ex-fiancée Bristol Palin made news again this week with the addition of the former Marine’s last name to the birth certificate of daughter Sailor Grace.

Meyer sought joint custody of his daughter with Palin, the daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, earlier this year. Various media outlets reported that a judge awarded joint custody and allowed Meyer regular visitation in Alaska with the baby.

Outlets also reported this week that Bristol Palin added Meyer to the baby’s last name on the birth certificate.

In a post on his Facebook page Wednesday, Meyer said, “I’ve had a lot of titles but I’ll be honest ... Dad is by far my favorite one.”

Palin also used #coparenting to tag an Instagram photo with Meyer and the baby. The photo was taken over the weekend, according to its post date.

Meyer, an Adair County native, and Bristol Palin were engaged last year. Both have been extensively covered by state and national media, Meyer since he was given the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in 2011. Meyer, the first living Marine to get the recognition in nearly four decades, was recognized for helping other Marines and soldiers ambushed by insurgents in Afghanistan.
