Man dies after Man o’ War crash involving multiple vehicles

A man has died after a multiple-car collision on Man o’ War Boulevard and Pleasant Ridge Drive that shut down outbound traffic on the outer loop for about three hours Thursday, according to police.

The Fayette County coroner’s office identified the man as Charles Covington, 86, of Lexington. He died at 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

Covington was driving a station wagon on the inner loop when he mistakenly made a left turn into the outer loop for an unknown reason, police said. He was struck around 7:20 a.m. by an Audi sedan in the outer loop’s left lane and a Lexus sedan in the right lane.

The driver of the Audi was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening, according to police.

The police crash reconstruction unit and diverted traffic to Pleasant Ridge Drive and Sir Barton Way while it investigated, police said.
