The Lexington police and fire departments are hosting events to encourage more women to join their ranks.
The first of the events, hosted by Lexington Fire Chief Kristin Chilton, is a program called Women in the Fire Service from 6 to 8 p.m. June 14 at the Lexington Fire Department’s Fire Training Center at 1375 Old Frankfort Pike. Dinner and childcare will be provided. To RSVP, text or call 502-295-1311.
Similar events will be held July 25 and Sept. 13. Fire Department applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 34.
On Saturday, the Lexington police will host a Women’s Law Enforcement Symposium from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Lexington Police Department’s Training Academy in the Megowan Building on the campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College campus at 500 Newtown Pike. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and a light buffet breakfast will be provided.

A panel of female officers will answer questions and talk about their experiences on the police force. Afterward, the written test for applicants will be available. More information is available by calling 800-755-6939 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
