A Breathitt County man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a shooting Saturday evening in the South Fork community.
Kentucky State Police were called to the Kentucky River Medical Center shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday when two gunshot victims were brought to the emergency room. Alex Hurt and Heather Sizemore, who had both suffered single gunshot wounds to the chest, told state police investigators they had been shot by Sandra Hurt, Alex Hurt’s mother.
When state police arrived at a home on Cook Fork Road in South Fork, they found Henry Hurt, 47, and husband of Sandra Hurt, dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Sandra Hurt was found unresponsive and admitted to Kentucky River Medical Center for undetermined medical issues. Kentucky State Police said those medical issues were not related to any gunshot wounds.
Sandra Hurt was expected to be charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of wanton endangerment. Because Hurt is in the hospital, it is unclear when state police will charge her.
