Fayette County

Back-to-school rallies scheduled for July 30

Back-to-school rallies will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in 15 neighborhoods. This event will provide more than 7,000 elementary, middle and high school students with free backpacks and school supplies.

9 to 11 a.m.: Student backpack registration and family activities at all locations

10 a.m.: News conference at Douglass Park

Noon: Backpack distribution (all grade levels at every site)

1 to 4 p.m.: Community pool party at Douglass Park

“The goal of this initiative is to prepare children for school and to unify our neighborhoods for even greater self-advocacy and community planning. Neighborhoods build bridges with schools, churches and local businesses by establishing relationships they can utilize in the future for a variety of purposes,” said Jessica Berry, the YMCA’s vice president of youth development.

The YMCA of Central Kentucky, in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools, is hosting the rallies.
