Observance at Arboretum to mark 10-year anniversary of Flight 5191 crash

A memorial service will be held at the Arboretum on Alumni Drive at 10 a.m. Aug. 27 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the crash of Comair Flight 5191.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray; University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto; and Debbie Hersman, former chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board, will attend, along with more than 300 friends and relatives of those who died. The Rev. Norman Fischer of St. Peter Claver Church and Pastor Jon Weece of Lexington’s Southland Christian Church are scheduled to speak.

Forty-nine passengers and crew died when the plane crashed after taking off on the wrong runway at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport on Aug. 27, 2006.
