Kentucky State Fair gets underway
It’s time to pay a visit to Freddy Farm Bureau in Louisville. That’s right, the Kentucky State Fair runs through Aug. 28 at the Kentucky Exposition Center, 937 Phillips Lane, Louisville. Admission is $10, free for ages 5 and younger. Parking is $8. Discount advance tickets are available through 10 p.m. Wednesday at Ticketmaster.com and Kroger stores. (Kystatefair.org)

Have a Picnic With the Pops
This year’s picnic features a different program each night. On Friday, ‘The Wizard of Oz’ will be screened while the Philharmonic performs the original soundtrack live. Saturday will feature Matthew Morrison, star of the Fox series “Glee,” performing with the philharmonic. Both nights begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Keeneland Meadow by the Keeneland Keene Barn, 4201 Versailles Road. Nightly general admission blanket seating is $15 advance, $20 at the gate, free for ages 12 and younger. Gate sales are cash only. Tables for eight are $200-$400. (Lexpops.com)

Get an early, early start on Christmas shopping
The 41st annual Woodland Art Fair will feature 200 artists, live entertainment and food at Woodland Park, 601 East High Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. (Lexingtonartleague.org)
The Bacon Brothers visit Frankfort
Actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Grand Theatre, 308 St. Clair Street, Frankfort. The two, who have performed together for almost 20 years, released their latest album, “36 Cents,” in 2014. Tickets are $45 to $75. (Grandtheatrefrankfort.org)
