Two killed, another injured after church bus crashes into pole in central Kentucky

A church bus crash in Frankfort killed two people and left another injured, according to police.

The Frankfort Police Department reported a “major motor vehicle” crash Sunday morning on Georgetown Road at Seminole Trail. The crash happened around 11:40 a.m.

The crash was a single-vehicle collision involving a church bus with three passengers, according to Herald-Leader news partners WKYT. Kentucky State Police said the van crashed into a telephone pole.

The two passengers were killed, while the driver was taken to the Frankfort Regional Medical Center, according to state police. One of the passengers, 76-year-old Carolyn Jackson, of Franklin County, was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger, 81-year-old James Jackson, of Franklin County, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The extent of the driver’s injuries was unclear Monday morning.

Frankfort police reported the road had reopened shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
