Dog rescued from 100-foot cliff overlooking Kentucky River
A dog stranded on a cliff 100 feet above the Kentucky River was rescued by officials Thursday, according to Jessamine County Emergency Management.
The dog was stranded on the Mercer County side of the Kentucky River Palisades at Brooklyn, according to emergency management. Several agencies from Jessamine and Mercer counties responded and worked together to build a rope system overlooking the cliff so a rescuer could access the dog.
One person was selected to go over the cliff due to his experience with animals. Emergency management said he was able to gain the dog’s trust and successfully secured the dog in a litter before being pulled back up to the top of the cliff.
The dog was chipped, and officials are hoping to reunite the dog with its owners soon. Emergency management said Jessamine County and Mercer County Animal Care personnel are working to assure the dog is stable and attempting to contact the registered owners.
It’s unknown how long the dog was on the cliff or how it got there, according to emergency management.
