West Jessamine's Gilliland named Miss Soccer
Arin Gilliland has had plenty of accolades in her soccer career at West Jessamine.
She's been named a Parade All-American and a four-time All-State player. She played overseas for the United States national team this summer.
Gilliland, a University of Kentucky signee, added one more honor to her personal trophy case last weekend when she was named Miss Soccer by the state's coaches.
West Jessamine Coach Kevin Wright, who has coached Gilliland since she was 8 years old, said it's been a pleasure watching her grow.
"She has a great work ethic, attitude and love for the game that makes her an elite player," he said. "It has been a joy to see her develop into a great soccer player and a into a fine young lady."
Gilliland scored 109 career goals for the Colts, who have gone 66-15-9 in the past four seasons.
She plans to graduate early from West Jessamine and play spring soccer at UK.
The honor was announced last Saturday at the annual East-West game, which Gilliland's West team won 1-0. It came on a goal by her longtime teammate Teryn Wright.
