Man shot in head at restaurant is improving

A Lexington man who was shot in the head at a Nicholasville restaurant early Saturday was improving Sunday evening at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Howard Jones' condition was upgraded Sunday from critical to serious, hospital officials said.

Nicholasville police said Jones was shot at 2 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Mí Pequeña Hacienda Mexican Restaurant in the Brannon Crossing shopping center.

Two other Lexington residents, Fred Lester and Mindy Wilkins, were arrested and charged with wanton endangerment in connection with the shooting. Both allegedly fired weapons, according to police.

According to police reports, a private party had been held at the restaurant and shots were fired after an altercation broke out as people were leaving.
