A state historic site in Richmond that was the home of an abolitionist newspaper publisher suffered roof damage during this weekend’s storms.

White Hall State Historic Site , which is owned by Eastern Kentucky University, had a large section of its roof ripped off. Several very large trees were also uprooted, reports WKYT.

No one was in the building, which is used by EKU for special events, at the time part of the roof came off, the television station reported.

EKU Board of Regents voted in February to take over White Hall from the state.

White Hall was named a historic site by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2011. Built in 1799, it was the Madison County home of publisher Cassius Marcellus Clay.
