‘Deeply saddened.’ Madison County high school student killed in a crash, officials say
A pair of minors were involved in a deadly collision in Madison County Tuesday, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s office.
Investigation determined that a 2003 Ford Ranger was heading east on Oakley Wells Road when it left the road sometime around 4 p.m. Tuesday. The driver over-corrected and crossed the road before the vehicle left the roadway on the west side and overturned.
The passenger was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on scene by the Madison County Coroner’s office, the sheriff’s office said. The victim was 17-year-old Edward Tribble, a Madison Central High School student, according to coroner Jimmy Cornelison.
A spokesperson for Madison County Schools said in a statement Tribble touched the lives of many, beginning when he was in elementary school.
“It is profound and we are deeply saddened,” the spokesperson said of the loss of Tribble.
The spokesperson said the crisis team will be on hand at Madison Central High School Wednesday and will stay as long as needed.
“The loss of life and the tragedy of an accident are so difficult to deal with, but seem particularly traumatic when they involve people who are so young,” the spokesperson said in the statement. “As a school district anytime we lose a student, the impact is felt throughout our schools.”
Some took to social media to mourn Tribble’s death.
“Many kids are awakened with sadness over the loss of a classmate and friend,” wrote Duane Curry in a Facebook post.
A GoFundMe page has been created for Tribble’s family. Maddie Frederick, the organizer of the page, wrote that Tribble was a good kid and was always willing to help someone out.
The driver suffered injuries and was taken to Baptist Health Richmond.
